Associate Professor Shailendra Singh
Associate Professor Shailendra Singh is Head of Journalism at the University of the South Pacific, Fiji.
In 2026, he was awarded a Fulbright Visiting Scholar Fellowship and is currently based at the Tully Center for Free Speech at Syracuse University, where he is researching media, human rights and social cohesion in Fiji, with a focus on national security challenges in a transitional democracy. He was previously the 2022 Pacific Research Fellow at the Australian National University’s Department of Pacific Affairs.
Associate Professor Singh served on the Editorial Board of Fiji’s independent National Security and Defence Review, which undertook a comprehensive review of the country’s national security, defence and intelligence environment.
His publications include an analysis of national media coverage of Fiji’s 2018 general election (2021) and a study of sexual harassment among female journalists in Fiji (2021). His broader research examines media performance in divided societies, media regulation, digital disruption and the sustainability of Pacific media.
Associate Professor Singh serves on the editorial boards of three scholarly journals: Pacific Media, Current Issues of Mass Communication, and the Journal of Diaspora Research, which is due to launch in 2026.
