What’s next for Papua New Guinea’s anti-money laundering reforms?

When Papua New Guinea was ‘grey listed’ by the Financial Action Task Force this year due to weaknesses in its financial systems, fears emerged about the listing’s impact on foreign investment and the country’s financial reputation. But could the listing be an opportunity to drive meaningful change in financial regulation.

On this episode of the Pacific Wayfinder podcast, Dr Eric Kwa (Papua New Guinea Secretary for the Department of Justice and Attorney-General), George Akia (Solicitor General for the Department of Justice and Attorney-General) and Emmauel Auru (Principal and co-founder of KiVa Financial Crime Advisory) join host Australian National University PhD scholar Michael Kabuni to share their take on the grey listing and what this means for the country’s financial reputation and future.

The panel discuss the benefits and consequences of being grey listed and what steps Papua New Guinea can take to get off the listing.
